Editing is a media technique that is used within any type of film or play in the world. Editing is how visual and audio materials are combined, this would be the basic edit and cut this is the term that is used to cut unwanted footage so it can be discarded. The purpose for editing is to combine shots into sequences so that they are able to present an idea or an visual. there are many editing techniques that are used within the term, for example:
Flash cutting- this is also refereed as a 'short cut' this would be a brief duration for about 2 seconds.
Cross cutting - this editing technique is an alternative for two shots or more such as the lines of actions that are occurring in different places.
Jump cut: a jump cut is an elliptical cut that appears on an interruption of one single shot. This occurs within a scene rather than between scenes and to condense shots.
Editing examples of thrillers:
An example of great editing skills within a thriller film would be the Obstructive editing technique used within a Alfred Hitchcook Vertigo. The technique is used within the film editing which it consists of series shots and are edited to condense time, space and the information used to show the audience.
Moreover, another great example would the the film Inception directed by Christopher Nolan. Many scenes within this film consist in slow motion to create suspense of going back in time and overlapping time, this makes the audience feel as though the characters are helpless so they don't have to worry of what will happen next.
